Doctor's Wife
All through the 1950s there was room on radio for daytime serials -- and they weren't just old-timers playing out the string. The Doctor’s Wife was entirely a creation of the Fifties, a tale of life in postwar suburbia as seen through the eyes of Julie Palmer, the devoted spouse of earnest young physician Dr. Dan Palmer. The Palmers were presented as typical of the young couples looking for fulfillment in the burgeoning developments springing up on the fringes of Big City America, and the program targeted the real-life young married women just then setting out on the course of family life. Starting in 1952, the program continued with stops and starts into the spring of 1956 -- a respectable run in a medium with a terminal illness.
