Alan Young
Old-Time Radio Series

Series
Alan Young
He was the bright young man of radio in the last years of the war -- a brash Canadian comic with a likeable stage persona and an array of memorable supporting characters. The Alan Young Show cast its star in a light situation-comedy format as a well-meaning bungler always looking to impress his girlfriend or his boss...and never quite managing to make the grade. The co-stars helped make the show, especially Jim Backus as Hubert Updike III -- the template for all the flighty millionaires he'd play in later decades (including the one that ended up living on an island). The series also served as an incubator for future stars of "Allen's Alley," with both Kenny Delmar and Parker Fennelly appearing as characters with dialects and mannerisms that would prove very familiar on The Fred Allen Show.
